Background/History: Born and raised in a isolated village of Demon Hunters, Sango was part of a very close knit community. They were the mightiest of humans, able to battle demons on their own terms and win. In her grandfather's time they had even liberated the legendary Shikon Jewel and entrusted it to the one woman whose heart was pure enough not to be tempted by it. She loved her father and brother very much and grew up the proper daughter, cheerful and pleasant. She was also trained to kill monsters from the moment she could walk.

All this ended the day Neraku turned his attention to her village. Knowing that her clan had retrieved the Jewel once before he did not want them to interfere with his own search. He lured Sango, her Father, and the finest of the Demon Hunters into an ambush, forcing her mind-controlled brother Kohaku to slaughter them, then releasing him long enough to see what he had done before striking them down. While the hunters were away hordes of Demons Neraku had tipped off attacked Sango's village, slaughtering every human they found there. Mad with grief and manipulated by Neraku, Sango attacked Inuyash believing he had committed these acts.

Soundly defeated, Sango was nursed back to health by Kagome and now seeks revenge on Neraku for what he has done to her family and village.

Personality/Motivation: At heart a kind, brave, and sensitive young woman in her mid teens, Sango's somewhat untraditional upbringing has not prevented her from seeing herself as a lady. She does what she can to maintain her dignity while mercilessly dispatching whatever demons she encounters.

Sango mourns the loss of her clan deeply but has come to accept her new companions as a surrogate family. She is absolutely dedicated to their shared mission to collect the shards of the Shikon Jewel and destroy Neraku. If anything, Sango is probably the most even-tempered and level-headed of her companions. She respects Inuyasha greatly and has come to regard Kagome as the sister she never had. Sango cares deeply for Miroku despite his constant attempts to grope her (and even seems a little jealous when he pays attention to other pretty young women).

The one major chink in her emotional well-being is her brother Kohaku. Kept alive by Neraku with his memory and identity erased, Kohaku has committed hideous crimes and now uses his demon hunting skills to aid the cause of the creature that killed their clan. She loves her brother above all else, but knows his will is not entirely his own. She is not sure that he can be saved, but desperately clings to glimmers of her brother that sometimes peek out of his expressionless eyes. Sango is prone to bouts of self-doubt and depression after encounters with him.

Powers/Tactics: As a Demon Hunter Sango is trained in a variety of anti-monster weapons and tactics. She carries a supply of poison designed to attack the senses of monsters and is more than capable of using a variety of weapons and tactics. Her signature weapon is her Hiraikotsu, a giant boomerang almost as large as she is. She uses it to block attacks and is able to throw it with enough force to cut a demon in half from hundreds of feet away.

Sango is in excellent physical condition and is well versed in the acrobatic fighting style of her clan. As skilled as she is, Sango is still human. She more than capable of taking down full grown warriors with her bare hands but has to be careful not to allow herself to be surrounded or she risks being overwhelmed. Against demons she will try to keep back and support other more front line fighters. When she was still with her Tribe this was her Father and fellow Hunters but she has adapted to Inuyasha's mobile combat style.

One of her only remaining links to her past is her "pet" Kirara, a powerful cat spirit that can change shape from a cuddly kitten like creature into a flaming saber-toothed beast. In best form Kirara is at least as dangerous a combatant as Sango and the two of them have long battled together to defeat Demons. Sango often rides Kirara in order to keep up with a rapidly moving battle.

Appearance: Sango is surprisingly feminine for a Demon Hunter. When not expecting combat she travels in a Red and White kimono with a green skirt and blue shoulder wrap. When she is expecting trouble she wears her Demon Hunter uniform, a black body stocking with bright pink pads and trim.

Strangers often comment on her beauty. Her one blemish is the large, ugly scar on her back. A souvenir of the night Neraku used Kohaku to slaughter the Demon Hunters.
