Fezzik

Background/History: Fezzik is the Turkish giant from the book The Princess Bride. A massive 85 pounds at the age of one year, Fezzik looked like a normal 20 year old by the age of nine. Impressed by his large size, his parents spent three years training Fezzik how to fight (starting when he was six), hoping to become rich off of their son's earnings in the wrestling ring. Unfortunately, Fezzik was slow, unable to remember any holds, fell down a lot and was scared to death (he was only nine you see), until he managed to get his hands on his opponent.... From then on, Fezzik went undefeated, winning match after match all over the world. The only problem was that people booed, hissed, and called him names

After fighting against just about every martial arts champion he could find (and beating them), Fezzik found that people accepted him better if he fought gangs. So he fought groups, up to a dozen at once. Eventually, though, the booing and catcalls came back and Fezzik was left abandoned in Greenland. There, he was found by Vizzini, who promised Fezzik that as long as he worked for Vizzini, no one would boo. That was good enough for Fezzik, now he serves as the Sicilian's strong man, and will do just about anything Vizzini says.

Most certainly the strongest person in the world, Fezzik is a quiet sort, who would rather make rhymes than hurt anyone. An outcast due to his size and slow wit, and desperate for companionship, Fezzik is very close to Inigo, whom he considers his closest friend.

Personality/Motivation: For all his size and strength, Fezzik is rather insecure. He's slow of wit, and doesn't catch on to current events as fast as most people. He is also deathly afraid of being alone, abandonment or ridicule. When fighting, Fezzik is a fair fighter. He doesn't like sneak attacks, or unfair fights. This last point is something Vizzini would love to have him forget.

Quote: "I'm sorry, Inigo. I didn't mean to jog him so hard."

Powers/Tactics: Fezzik's main power is his immense strength. He is possibly the strongest person alive, and is quite capable of smashing down doors with his fists, lifting a castle gateway, and hurling a rock with deadly force. Aside from his seemingly endless strength, Fezzik is also a reasonably accomplished wrestler, having been trained by his father in Turkish fighting arts.

Fezzik is a rather good fighter, with a great deal of experience. His HTH levels do require a little explanation. Normally, Fezzik gets his HTH levels only when fighting groups (4 or more opponents). If fighting a single person, he will need to engage that target for a full Turn (or two) before he will be able to "switch over" and remember exactly how one fights just one man (there are different moves and holds you see...).

Fezzik's other abilities include: being able to climb just about anything; being able to throw small objects (such as stones) with sufficient power to kill a normal man; and never getting ill.

Appearance: Fezzik is huge, standing over 7 feet in height and weighing well over 400 pounds. He is Turkish, with a thick black mustache. Fezzik was played by Andre the Giant in the movie, and Andre does a good job of representing Fezzik's sheer size in comparison to everyone else. His dress is uncertain, the movie version wore a simple tunic, trousers and boots.

Designer's Notes: According to William Goldman, Andre the Giant was the visual inspiration for Fezzik.
