Crystal Golem

Ecology: Unlike virtually all other golems, crystal golems aren't carved, cast, or forged, but, in fact, grown. One creates a crystal golem by placing certain crystals in large alchemical vats filled with mineral-rich waters. Various salts and powdered compounds are then added to the vat, while spells are placed upon the entire mixture. Although the process takes time (creating a crystal golem requires anywhere from six months to a year), it also means there’s no real size limit to a finished golem. As long as the vat is big enough and the creator adds sufficient raw materials, the golem will continue to grow.

Personality/Motivation: Crystal golems have no real personality and only do what their creator tells them to do.

Powers/Tactics: A crystal golem normally attacks by striking blows with its massive fists. Some may be given weapons, such as large axes, maces, and swords. Large golems will often simply swat at foes with the flat of their hand (defined as applying the Advantage Area of Effect (1m Radius) [or more] to the golem's STR). Crystal golems can pretty much ignore most attacks, but their basic structure and crystalline composition renders them susceptible to such things as hammers, maces, large hurled stones, and other crushing/smashing weapons and attacks.

Appearance: A crystal golem has a roughly humanoid shape with limbs formed of thick masses of crystal. Clusters of crystals form a ridge down the golem's back, while another fringe of crystals gives the golem the appearance of a beard.

Designer's Notes: The crystal golem is based on the Reaper Miniatures figure "Crystal Golem." The character sheet was derived from a modification of the Clay and Stone golems found in the HERO System Bestiary. To make the crystal golem tougher, simply increase its size. You could also consider various powers based around sharp and/or pointed crystals, such as a Damage Shield (defined as clusters of sharp crystals along the golem's spine or other surfaces) or a Hand Killing Attack (sharp, pointed, or blade-like fingers).
