HISTORY
The greatest living horse at the time of the War of the Ring. In Third Age 3018, King Théoden of Rohan allowed Gandalf to choose any horse from his herd, and Gandalf chose Shadowfax, so called for his silver-grey coat.
Shadowfax could run for twelve hours a day, and outrun any steed of the nazgul. He bore Gandalf throughout the War of the Ring without any bit or bridle.
NOTES
1. Some will argue with the human-level intelligence. I do not intend that Shadowfax be a magical talking animal, merely that he seems to be present when needed and to have an understanding of what is needed that is deeper than most animals.
