(Greater Japan Science Patrol)

Established in 1952, the Science Patrol conducts observations and research the world over, as well as in low and high Earth orbit. Closely connected with JAXA (the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), the Science Patrol is not only dedicated to scientific research and development, but also the island nation's first line of defense against extraterrestrial invaders and attacks by dai-kaiju.

The Science Patrol has become a popular destination for young Japanese women who wish to see the world before settling down. This mid-1980s photo shows the all-female crew of one of the Patrol's research vessels.

The patrol continues to operate in the 21st Century. Its uniforms, however, still harken back to the styles worn in the early 1960s. Not that many men are complaining.
