KAZEI 5

NETRUNNING

There are four basic system types in the Kazei 5 universe. These are:

When entering any such system, the netrunner must make a Computer Programming Roll when ever the following is attempted:

This Roll is modified depending on the type of system. Usually, this is an unopposed roll (ie. "Make your Comp Prog at -4 and you're in"), but in Protected and Defended Systems, it may be skill-vs-skill. Note: rolling an 18 in any system will often result in the netrunner being 'dumped'. In a Protected or Defended System, he may take several dice of damage from system ICE before being dumped.

Naked System: this is any low-end computer system used for the most basic and menial of tasks. A computer like this might be found in a fast-food restaurant for example.

Secure System: this is the type of system usually found in retail stores (to keep track of payroll and hours), or in warehouses and the like to track inventory.

Protected System: these systems usually have serious ICE, and few might even have pet deckers floating around keeping things running smoothly. Protected Systems are found in banks, hospitals, large stores and the like.

The computer also has the following skills (ie. sub-routines), activated if an intruder fails his Computer Programming roll:
KS: Phone Grid 12- (used to pinpoint intrusion)
KS: Matrix Signatures 12- (used to ID netrunner)

Defended Systems: this is the sort of computer used by corporations and the like. There are systems even tougher than this, they include the massive mainframes used by the largest of megacorporations. Such systems are usually rife with ICE, and often have dedicated secondary processors that do nothing but run anti-intrusion sub-routines constantly. Anyone entering such a system is either very good, or very foolish.

The computer also has the following skills (ie. sub-routines), activated if an intruder fails his Computer Programming roll:
KS: Phone Grid 15- (used to pinpoint intrusion)
KS: Matrix Signatures 15- (used to ID netrunner)

Note: failing a roll doesn't mean total failure, the netrunner can try again. The big problem is that now the system knows he's here...
