Background/History: Before the Femme Fatales, Matrix used to be a member of the East German Nationalen Volksarmee (The National People's Army), where she serviced tanks, trucks, and other vehicles. It was hard, dirty work, but Matrix couldn't complain, the pay was decent enough and she was fed regularly Her career was cut short, however, by a mishap with an engine jack that cost Matrix her left arm. Expecting a future of disabled uselessness, Matrix was rather surprised to be asked if she wanted to help her country (and her people) by volunteering to test new prosthetic devices. Matrix, who figured that a mechanical arm was better than no arm, agreed.
Shipped to Russia, Matrix was taken to a highly-secret research station located in the mountains. There she learned exactly what the Party officials had meant by "testing"; for when she awoke from her operation it was to discover that a cybernetic limb had been implanted in place of her missing arm. Initially Matrix was appalled by the idea of a mechanical limb being implanted in her, but after time—and once she realized the inherent power in her new arm—Matrix accepted the implant, and even began to prefer using her arm over her original flesh limb.
It was while confined to the research station that Matrix began to wonder what was really going on there. She encountered many other soldiers like herself, men and woman who had been injured in the line of duty (and large numbers of those had seen action in Afghanistan), all outfitted with new bodyparts. Not all of these "volunteers" seemed happy to be there, however—a few went a bit mad after coming out of surgery, one or two committed suicide and some vanished quietly into the night.
It was while learning to use her new limb that Matrix first met Sofia. The Soviet super-soldier was there for an examination, and when Sofia decided that it was time for her to leave, she invited Matrix to go along with her, correctly assuming that Matrix was looking to escape herself. Along the way, they released an American CIA agent named Mary from her cell and went East, to hopeful freedom.
Personality/Motivation: To put it simply, Matrix is slowly going mad. Never a loud or outspoken person, recently she has become more and more fascinated by the abilities inherent in her cybernetic limb. She has begun to wonder what she could do if more of her limbs were mechanical, and if it would be possible to replace other organs with superior cybernetic substitutes. At the moment this fascination is low-key and just passing the point of idle speculation, but it may turn into an overwhelming obsession.
Aside from her unhealthy fascination with cybernetic implants, Matrix tends to be quiet, withdrawn, grumpy and irritable. She knows that about half the team avoids her (for one reason or another) and returns the favor by ignoring them. Her closest friend on the team is Mary, who has much the same attitude about life in general as Matrix does.
As an interesting (and amusing) side note, Matrix's one true passion in life is beer. She considers herself a connoisseur of fine beers from around the world and has go so far as to experiment with home brewing her own beer in the team's headquarters. The only problem is, no one but Mary will drink the stuff.
Quote: "Ja, ja... sure thing, mein herr."
Powers/Tactics: Matrix's prime power is her cybernetic arm, which she uses to augment her martial strikes and throws. In a fight she will usually team up with Blue Mary, coordinating their efforts to take a target down.
When fighting Matrix tends to use her cyberarm, usually at full extension to perform throws ranged throws and punches. She knows Mary is a much better infighter than she is and lets her handle the in close work. If pressed, Matrix will combine her Kung Fu Blocks, Boxing Cross, and Leg Launch to keep her opponent off balance till she can close for Super Side Kick or a Super Uppercut. Airborne Fury is usually used as a desperation move, if she really need to knock someone down.
Matrix's Photon Sword was picked up after a mission versus Viper. Matrix was the only one who thought the weapon useful, and she has carried it ever since. Normally she uses the energy blade to hack through walls, chains, cable, partitions, and railings, as well as to wreck vehicles, robots, and other inanimate devices. Matrix is under orders not to use it on people, but she will anyway if she thinks she can get away with it (or if she is alone).
Appearance: Matrix stands a tall and lanky 5' 10", with a trim build, green eyes and bright blonde hair. Her normal costume is an armored bodysuit that covers her torso, military fatigue trousers and boots. A series of armored plates are attached over her lower legs and feet. Matrix's left arm is a gleaming silver cybernetic implant. Normally she leaves this uncovered, but will add a long-sleeved jacket and a glove if subtly is required.
